The Arianna Quartet is thrilled to welcome virtuoso cellist Zuill Bailey back to the Touhill for an evening of music among friends! Mr. Bailey opens the evening with a performance of Gaspar Cassado’s Suite for Solo Cello, a scintillating work infused with Spanish flavors and style that capitalize on the versatility and range of the cello. The ASQ next performs Carlos Simon’s yearning “Elegy” for String Quartet, a piece of raw honesty and beauty dedicated to the memory of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, and Michael Brown, that wrestles with the anger, fear and anguish associated with these and other unjust murders. The ASQ and Mr. Bailey close the evening with a performance of Schubert’s uplifting and celebrated String Quintet in C Major, a masterpiece of grand proportions and intimate approachability.
