Arianna String Quartet, Touhill Concert Series "Welcome Back!"

The Arianna String Quartet kicks off their 2021-22 concert series at the Touhill Performing Arts Center with a program focused on hope, humanity, and the joy of togetherness.

Beethoven’s first string quartet, Op.18 No.3, is an effervescent work that reveals the genius of one of the greatest-ever creative spirits at his very beginning.  Celebrated American composer Gabriela Lena Frank’s “Leyendas” (2001) follows, with a six-movement walkabout through a mixture of western classical and Andean folk music traditions, with the ASQ emulating wooden flutes, mythical runners, and storming guitars.  The ASQ closes with Felix Mendelssohn’s heroic Quartet in E-flat Major, Op.44, No.3, a piece full of irrepressible optimism and utter beauty.
