When Edward Munn Sanchez is not serving as Dean of the Pierre Laclede Honors College and teaching professor in UMSL’s Department of Philosophy, you can find him enjoying his favorite past-time, cooking. Cooking is a form of entertainment for his family and paella has always proved a showstopper. Munn Sanchez was born in Spain where his parents and sister still reside. Munn Sanchez earned his PhD from Emory University. Prior to joining UMSL, Munn Sanchez served as assistant dean for academic affairs and diversity at the University of South Carolina Honors College.
Music and love define the artistry of singer, songwriter, dedicated community activist and UMSL alumnus Brian Owens. Known for his soulful gift of song, Owens is also the founder and Executive Director of L.I.F.E. Arts Inc (Leadership, Innovation, Faith and Entrepreneurship), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides artistic resources, opportunities, mentoring and positive experiences to help students in underserved communities throughout Ferguson and the St. Louis metropolitan area to access consistent and localized programs, experiences and infrastructure. Additionally, Owens serves as the Community Music Artist in Residence with the E. Desmond Lee Fine Arts Collaborative at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
