The UMSL 2019 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Observance will be held on Monday, January 21, 2019 at 10 a.m. in the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center. The program will feature:
Chancellor Thomas George and James Widner, director of Jazz Studies, will provide a
prelude performance;
Bree Newsome, activist and filmmaker, as guest speaker;
Justin Andrews, KMOV reporter, master of ceremonies;
Brian Owens, E. Des Lee Artist in Residence at UMSL featuring Compositions for LIFE and
the MLK Festival Ensemble;
St. Louis Children’s Choirs and the City of Music All-Star Chorus;
2019 MLK Scholarship Recipients;
The UMSL College of Education faculty and students from Kappa Delta Pi Chapter will coordinate a concurrent program for children ages 5-11. The chapter has coordinated this award winning MLK children’s program for the past eight years. Registration for this program is available on a first come first serve basis.
