Industrial Policies, Technology Innovation, and the U.S.-China Trade War

In the ongoing U.S.-China trade war, technological innovation has been encouraged by government subsidies in specific high-tech industrial sectors.

In his presentation, Prof. Zhang will describe the two types of innovation: original and imitative - and how industrial policy is more helpful for imitative innovation because of its less uncertain nature. He will also discuss American efforts to force China to stop subsidizing innovation so the U.S. can maintain technological advantages on the global scale.
