UMSL and Missouri S&T present an ekphrasis project, "Art in Translation."
We invite you to join us for the Public Reception on March 3rd. The event will run from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
The exhibit showcases visual and literary art practices through a partnership with the S&T campus and their creative writing class.
UMSL BFA Senior Studio majors exhibit their artworks alongside pieces of ekphrastic poetry written about the artworks by S&T creative writing students.
This sets up a rich conversation between the two art forms and showcases how visual language can inform and inspire the written word.
In turn, helping us to see more deeply into the visual arts. Ekphrasis means “description” in Greek. An ekphrastic poem is a vivid description of a scene or, more commonly, a work of art. Through the imaginative act of narrating and reflecting on the “action” of a painting or sculpture, the poet may amplify and expand its meaning.
The 'Art in Translation' exhibit will run from February 20th through March 31st.
