Student Government Association and UMSL Students Of Service bring you The Big Event! 2018, an effort to impact one place in the STL Metro in a big way with our service.
This year we are working with Good Life Growing, an organization that addresses local food insecurity and creates awareness about access to healthy food in the St. Louis urban core.
This project may include the following tasks:
- Clean-up and tend to grow bed and hoop house structures
- Assist with seeding, planting, and harvesting of produce from raised grow beds and greenhouse aquaponic grow beds
- Assist preparations for weekly produce stand we run at the farm each Sunday
- Perform hands-on tasks that require working with produce and produce preparation, hydroponic, aquaponic, aeroponic, and other organic growth methods
*This site is not wheelchair accessible or support cane friendly.*
Wear comfortable clothes you don't mind getting dirty that cover you (long sleeves and pants are highly recommended) to reduce the risk of mosquito bites, and closed-toe shoes you don't mind getting dirty. Bring a "Can-Do" attitude!
Volunteers will arrive at the MSC Nosh for check-in, breakfast, and a brief program before being disbursed to the sites via bus. The service project will last approximately three hours. Interested participants must register by 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4. Walk-ups are welcome, but will only be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis, pending available space, and shirt size cannot be guaranteed. Check-in will begin at 8:00, and we will depart by 9:20. Service hours will be 10-1. Lunch will be provided upon return to campus.
Service hours will be tracked and available upon request.
